A pesar de que el Valladolid comenzó el partido con ímpetu y adelantándose, fruto del trabajo de Maturana, el Bar¢a, en un estado de juego impresionante, remontó con un grandísimo Txiki. Fue el último partido de Cruyff antes de que le diera el infarto. Aquela temporada el FCB tuvo que acometer la lesión de Koeman, la sanción de Stoitchkov y la enfermedasd de Cruyff. Y aún así barrió en la liga y llegó a la final de la Recopa.
