Information

The Colorado team (in 1989 they merged with EC Pinheiros to create the Paraná Clube) came to Rio de Janeiro needing a victory to go through to the round of 16, the first game between theses 2 teams in this championship was 4x0 for Colorado. The highlights were Joel Mendes (the best goalkeeper, Bola de Prata, of the 1974 Brazilian National First Division playing for EC Vitória), Aladim (1966 Rio de Janeiro State Championship winner with Bangu and a legend for Coritiba FC), Buião (an important player for Atlético Mineiro in the late 1960s) and Jorge Nobre (had a hat-trick in the first meeting between Flamengo and Colorado). 1981 was a magical year for Flamengo, but the 1st semester was a tough one (the irregular 1981 Brazilian National First Division campaign corroborates this statement) since Claudio Coutinho's departure, the "architect" of the great Rubronegro from the early 1980s, to coach the Los Angeles Aztecs. It would take 3 differents head coaches and the promotion of young players like Leandro, Mozer and Andrade to change this scenery. Luís Pereira, Zico, Júnior, Adílio, Tita and Nunes were the hopes of the fans of the Mengão to secure the qualification to the round of 16, a defeat would mean the elimination.
